Under the banner of the European Year of Lifelong Learning, a large number of events will be held across Europe throughout 1996. The Year now has a homepage on the World Wide Web. Details of events may be searched either by calendar month or by country. The European Year of Lifelong Learning was set up by the Commission to make Europeans more aware of the profound impact caused by the Information Society, globalization and advances in science and technology, and the responses which education and training can provide. In particular, the Year aims to promote the ideas of training and education during peoples' working lives, so that they are able to use new technologies and practices, and thereby have the ability to change jobs and careers. The Web homepage contains details of national contacts in the Member States and other participating European countries, information about the Year from the Commission, and resources and ideas which may be used in the planning of events.
