Kitchen have different shapes and functions: they can be small or big; only for dining or for cooking; adapted to families or for a single person; with or without a table; with a table only used as an eating table or for other purposes, etc. Moreover, the functions that a kitchen can have are not immutable, they can can change along the years depending on the way of living and the number of people using it. The main goal of the Barcelona House is to create a house adapted to the changing requirements of people living in it. To achieve this goal, it is very important the mobility of the different items : house-rooms that can change their size using moving walls, modular and mobile furniture, partitions that can be placed anywhere letting the light pass through, etc. And, of course, in order to make it possible, all the electric and water connections must be mobile too. The house as a box is not useful anymore, now the multifunctional concept is on its way. Fagor has developed the kitchen in this modular, multifunctional and mobile house. This concept of the modular kitchen comes from the French designer Dominique Perrault, who intended to create a modular table depending on the elements it has on it. For example: if the table has a computer, it can be a working table, but later on it could turn into a cooking table with an oven and a sink. The commitment of Fagor has been to develop a more industrial and commercial way to fit the kitchen. On the one hand, Fagor has created a modular standardization of the system , that is to say, an oven module, a sink module, a stove module, etc. have been developed, but always keeping in mind that it has to be possible to adapt these elements to different spaces and needs. On the other hand, the new modular kitchens take advantage of the information and communication technology has , such as Internet and domotic functions. Finally, the application of concepts such as ergonomic and functional polyvalence is important too, so that the elements can be adapted to different uses.
