Following the announcement of the 14,960 million euro budget of the Fifth Framework Programme, it is up to interested participants to familiarise themselves with the way the programme works to prepare for the first calls for proposals.

To assist, the Association Nationale de la Recherche Technique (ANRT) in France is organising a conference in Paris on 11 and 12 February 1999 covering the following questions:

- What type of approach should take to the key actions?
- How does one choose the best of the different programmes?
- What are the nature, shape and extent of the most effective consortia? What are the criteria?
- What sort of new contractual obligations will there be?
- How does one take advantage of geographical opportunities?
- What sort of flexibility is there in the evolution of work plans?

As well as answering such questions, the ANRT colloquium will set out a guide to new good practices for participation.
