This year's MEDICA trade fair and exhibition on medicine, MEDICA'96, will be held in Dusseldorf, Germany, from 20 to 23 November 1996.

A permanent feature of this fair is "MEDICA-Medienstrasse", a major medical software exhibition. This will present the latest developments in the area of medical software including the radical new possibilities in diagnosis and treatment being offered by image banks, multimedia, virtual reality, information superhighways and telemedicine.

In particular "MEDICA-Medienstrasse" will feature a section dedicated to projects funded under the "Health" sector of the Community's specific RTD programme in the area of telematics applications of common interest (1994-1998). The following fields will be covered:

- Multimedia medical journals;
- Telemedicine;
- Information systems for citizens and health sector workers;
- Additional measures in the field of health telematics (implementation strategies, user support systems, data protection, standards).

The fair will also feature the annual MEDIZIN Software Competition which will award prizes to the most promising software developments in the medical field.
