A series of six regional seminars will take place in September and October 1996 in the United Kingdom to provide information about the next call for proposals under the JOULE/THERMIE programme for non-nuclear energy.

Organized by the UK Department of Trade and Industry, the seminars will take place in:

- London: 30 September;
- Bristol: 7 October;
- Birmingham: 8 October;
- Manchester: 9 October;
- Newcastle-upon-Tyne: 14 October;
- Glasgow: 15 October.

The next call for proposals for JOULE/THERMIE will be launched on 15 September 1996. It is expected that nearly UK £200 million will be available to fund projects. The regional seminars will provide information and practical advice to UK organizations on the content of the call, Type A and B projects, pre-screening and evaluation procedures, as well as support measures and further sources of help.

The JOULE programme will be seeking proposals for R&D projects relating to energy RTD strategy, rational use of energy and fossil fuels, as well as a few relating to renewable energies. A final call is expected in the beginning of 1997 which will concentrate on renewable energies.

The THERMIE programme will invite proposals for demonstration projects in the rational use of energy in buildings, transport and industry; renewable energies, including photovoltaics, wind, biomass, small hydro and geothermal energy; clean production of electricity from solid fuels; and hydrocarbons. A final call will be made in September 1997.

A small exhibition will accompany the seminars. This will include poster exhibits on other energy programmes and innovative energy technologies, as well as online demonstrations of CORDIS and other databases.
