How will the mobile service world of the European automotive aftermarket look like in the future?

A launch event for the IST FP6 MYCAREVENT project took place in Dusseldorf, Germany, on 7 and 8 October 2004.

7 October 2004 - 8 October 2004

The project and its overall vision was presented on the first day of the event while technical and administrative aspects were addressed on the second day, which was open only to project partners.
The three-year MYCAREVENT project receives 10 million Euro of EU funding and intends to introduce innovative mobile applications. This will enable new ways of working and collaboration among car manufacturers, workshops, road assistance services and customers. These new applications and services can be seamlessly and securely accessed by mobile devices and will provide manufacturers with specific car repair information according to the problems identified by the Off/On-Board-Diagnosis systems. MYCAREVENT will work together with DIN, the German Institute for Standardization, on the establishment of standards for the collaboration in the automotive industry and will support the creation of value by utilizing the potentials of mobile devices and the interoperable use of service portals.
The MYCAREVENT consortium consists of 21 dedicated partners from nine European countries which will offer solutions to practical challenges emerging from the new Block Exemption Regulation for the European Aftermarket. MYCAREVENT is being coordinated by the Research Institute for Operations Management FIR at the Aachen University of Technology, Germany. During the three-year project, leading European car manufacturers, workshops, road assistance services, software developers, diagnostic tool manufacturers and leading academics will enable high service levels for the European mobile society.
An impact in the European Aftermarket sector is possible only through the close cooperation of leading OEMs and service providers. Bringing these partners together on a common platform is quite a challenge in itself. According to Dr. Volker Stich (Project Co-ordinator & Managing Director of the FIR), MYCAREVENT brings together leading partners of the European Aftermarket who are commited to fostering a value-adding mobile service world for the different stakeholders.
