MPD is a type of executive and visionary seminar which is based on invited presentations of internationally recognized experts representing top class industry and academia equally and worldwide.

MPD 2015 brings together front line industrial manufacturers, technology and service providers, and researchers to discuss and exchange opinions and experiences in industrial best practices, novel business concepts and operational excellence, as well as scientific and technological advances and breakthroughs in the field. More than 500 participants are expected to attend the MPD 2015. The feedback from the MPD 2013 has been highly positive, participants of the industries emphasizing e.g. the international nature, high level of interest and topicality of the event.

The theme of MPD 2015 is “True Competitiveness” which is logical continuation to “Sustainable Growth”-the theme of MPD 2013.

The Summit programme is based on invited presentations of internationally recognized experts representing top class industry and academia equally and worldwide. The plenary and parallel sessions will provide the participants with answers to the main technology and business questions and dimensions related to true competitiveness and resilient manufacturing:

True competitiveness is based on the company’s culture and values which are forming a stable base for the manufacturing and business operations in the local and global competition and for fostering greater empowerment for all employees and a competitive edge in long term.

True competitiveness calls for sustainable operational excellence supporting sustainable growth regardless of external factors. Sustainable growth needs to work for economic growth but also take care of resource efficiency and reduced environmental impacts, as well as social sustainability.

True competitiveness needs a culture to pursue quality and productivity and an ability to innovate and provide competitive product and service offerings to the market place.

True competitiveness needs strategic longevity and cannot be measured exclusively in terms of short term profit or loss.

True competitiveness needs resilience allowing manufacturing companies to deal with changing customer requirements or a fluctuating quantity of purchase orders or deal with any other uncertainties or disturbances and with an optimal capacity utilization by orchestrating and realigning the resources faster than rivals.

The resilience should also cross the boundaries between individual enterprises. Supply and value networks are becoming more complex and tightly coupled as companies start to compete through their entire supply chains or networks. It’s important to improve the resilience of these supply chains and networks to make them less vulnerable to different unpredictable risks and events such as natural disasters.

A resilient factory of the future is in need of advanced and flexible manufacturing technologies and skilled and qualified employees at all levels of the shop floor. The challenge is how to build the resilience capabilities.

Industrial internet or Industry 4.0 as part of the 4th Industrial Revolution is a key enabler for true competitiveness and a resilient factory by pushing the boundaries of minds and machines and providing a transparent system that enables companies to make more informed business decisions and avoid production hiccups even in the most dynamic business situations.

Industrial Internet and Internet of Things will deliver new efficiency gains, accelerate productivity growth and make digitalization and cyber-physical devices and systems smart by bringing together machines, analytics, and scalable software platforms to enable user-friendly and rea-time person-to-person, person-to-machine, and machine-to-machine communication and seamless flow of information between all the parties of the value chain.

Further, the programme includes visits to relevant companies as well as professionally organised B2B meetings, and a networking and brokerage event. The summit opens new business contacts and activates industry and academia for R&D collaboration over the borders.
