The first European conference on "Health telematics education" will be held in Corfu, Greece, from 5 to 7 September 1996. It is organized by the NIGHTINGALE project funded by the Community's Telematics Applications specific RTD programme.

The aim of the conference is to bridge the gap between health telematics and education. Topics will include:

- Needs/current status of health telematics education in Europe;
- Curriculum development in health telematics, health informatics and nursing informatics;
- Development of courseware material, educational packages, educational software packages (CD-ROM, multimedia);
- Computer-based training, computer-assisted learning;
- Distance learning, WWW and Internet applications;
- Training in use of hospital information systems, nursing information systems;
- Inter-university programmes (ERASMUS/SOCRATES);
- Accreditation of courses.

The NIGHTINGALE project aims to provide curriculum development in the multi-disciplinary field of nursing informatics by consensus process at all levels of nursing education and training, as well as implementation and demonstration of the curriculum at various pilot sites across Europe. The training will be implemented using existing or extended multimedia tools of learning and education.
