In accordance with Articles 92 and 93 of the Treaty, the European Commission has granted authorization for the following State aids: - Germany: Programme for research into new materials, to promote R&D into the new materials of the 21st century (ECU 733.5 million); - The Netherlands: Support to Philips "Eco-design" project aimed at stimulating collaborative research in the field of environmentally-friendly product research (ECU 240,000); - Spain (Valencia): Energy measures to promote energy saving, energy diversification and renewable sources of energy (ECU 2 million); - Spain (Balearic Islands): Support to SMEs for environmental and energy projects (ECU 3,047); - Spain: (Balearic Islands): Aid for the Es Raigüer region aimed at developing industrial, business and service sectors in an area in industrial decline (ECU 6 million); - France: Approval of parafiscal charge on air pollution, to provide grants for environmental plant and machinery to reduce air pollution and develop new technologies (ECU 27 million); - Denmark: Aid to promote R&D, to provide for tax arrangements and extend the tax law for 1995 to improve the scope for firms to engage in R&D; - Germany: Work and technology programme to support research for improving the working conditions of workers (ECU 37 million).
