Reduction of manual finishing by automated manufacturing of dies and moulds (AMADEUS)

Objective

In die and mould industry the finishing process of the work pieces is carried out manually. The manual work is hard labour, very time consuming (33%) and responsible for about 30% of total costs. This manual process will be reduced by AMADEUS to less than 50%. As a result the production time and the total costs can be reduced. For automation of the manual process two grinding processes - belt grinding and grinding with small grinding wheels - will be integrated into a milling centre, for machining of dies and moulds in a single fixture. This will lead to less preparation time, higher geometrically accuracy and less floor space needed for storage of the workpieces. As an effect the flexibility and competitiveness of the European die and mould industry will rise. The working conditions will be improved, current jobs will be protected and higher skilled jobs will be created.
