Objective
This project aims to bring DFCS technologies to the small commercial aircraft market at an affordable cost whilst maintaining the stringent safety requirements. This requires a radical challenge to current practices. A previous phase (ADFCS) identified the primary cost drivers, and addressed the equipment architecture to reduce the need for replication by improved fault detection and identification. ADFCS-II addresses 4 key cost drivers:
the design process by the increased use of high-fidelity simulations and analysis tools;
Fault Tolerant Control technologies to improve FCS effectiveness;
actuation architectures to provide the required integrity and ensure the continuity of control;
and the specification of a set of Flying Qualities Requirements to focus the design process.
