Objective
The present project aims at supporting strategies that improve the competitiveness of European SME producers of marine fish. These strategies include the production of high quality seabream targeting high--end local markets, and sole, an emerging species with an attractive price and demand but limited supply.
The proposed research seeks at improving the quality of farmed fish products through a better feed quality and feeding management during the finishing period prior to slaughter for Gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata, as model for an industrialised species) and Senegal sole (Solea senegalensis, as model for an emerging species). A wide range of quality criteria for marine fish (visual appearance, slaughter quality, shelf life, cooking quality, sensorial and nutritional qualities) will be explored on their usefulness as marketing arguments to support the SME producers to differentiate their high-end product in the market.
