Food safety screening: synthetic glucocorticoids

Objective

The proposal aims to facilitate and catalyse the accelerated development of promising vaccine strategies from the laboratory to the clinic. The urgent need of a vaccine to prevent AIDS requires the most efficient utilisation of nonhuman primate resources to evaluate, select and refine the most promising AIDS vaccine candidates for clinical trials. The standardised evaluation of HIV-1 vaccine candidates for safety, immunogenicity and efficacy will be carried out under very controlled conditions in an unbiased fashion in well characterised non-human primates. This data will be constantly fed back to vaccine developers to assist them to accelerate development, to optomise vaccine components, and to refine immunisation protocols for clinical trials with greatest chance of success. A large number of new and innovative vaccine candidates and immunisation strategies will be evaluated.
