Objectif TO DEVELOP AN HYDROMETALLURGICAL PROCESS WHICH MAKES POSSIBLES VANADIUM BENEFICIATION INTO V2 05 FORM FROM RESIDUES EXIXTING IN THE COMMUNITY AND WHICH HAVE NOT BEEN TREATED UP TO NOW. 2 O5 AT PRESENT V2 O5 IN EUROPE IS NBEING PRODUCED MAINLY BY A THERMAL PROCESS FROM STELL SLAGS COMING CHIEFLY FROM SOUTH AFRICA (SIGNIFICANT ENERGY CONSUMPTION DEPENDENCE ON SOUTH AFRICA). HOWEVER VANADIUM EXISTS IN BIG QUANTITIES IN HEAVY FUELS COMING IN PARTICULAR FROM VENEZUELA. THESE ARE ALREADY BURNED IN NUMEROUS EUROPEAN PLANTS AND THEIR PART MAY INCREASE IN THE FUTURE BECAUSE OF MORE FAVOURABLE BUYING CONDITIONS. SO VANADIFEROUS RESIDUES EXIST IN DIFFERENT EUROPEAN COUNTRIES WHICH HAVE BEEN BENEFICIATED AND OFTEN RAISE STOCKPILING PROBLEMS. CONSEQUENTLY IT IS NECESSARY OT DEVELOP A PROCESS FLEXIBLES ENOUGH TO BENEFICIATE VANADIUM FROM THESE VARIOUS RESIDUES. THE RESEARCH EFFORT WILL BE DEVOTED EXPECIALLY TO : - THE INVENTORY AND CHARACTERIZATION OF RAW MATERIALS - THE LEACHING OF VANADIUM CONTAINED IN POOR PRODUCTS WITH ASSOCIATED MATERIALS RECOVERY, IN PARTICULAR CARBON, AN ENERGETIC ELEMENT - THE VANADIUM SEPARATION OUT OF SULPHURIC SOLUTION EITHER BY SELECTIVE HYDROLYSIS OR BY SOLVENT EXTRACTION OR RESIN ION EXCHANGE. THE FOLLOWING STEPS ARE ENVISAGED : - INVENTORY AND CHARACTERIZATION (THE INVESTIGATION WILL BE CARRIED OUT WITH ITALIAN AND FRENCH POWER THERMAL PLANTS) - LABORATORY STUDIES : . EXAMINATION OF THE POSSIBILITIES OF PHYSICAL BENEFICIATION . SULPHURIC LEACHING (OPTIMIZATION OF CONDITIONS MAKING POSSIBLE THE DISSOLUTION OF THE MAXIMUM QUANTITY OF VANADIUM,STUDY OF SOLID-LIQUID SEPARATIONS MAKING POSSIBLE THE RECOVERY OF CARBONACEOUS PRODUCTS) . STUDY OF THE VANADIUM BY SOLVENT EXTRACTION OR RESIN ION EXCHANGE . SEPARATION OF VANADIUM BY SOLVENT EXTRACTION OR RESIN ION EXCHANGE . CHARACTERIZATION OF THE OBTAINED PRODUCTS .
