Project description
Designing and building a more sustainable Europe
Design of steel structures is still based on traditional criteria, severely limiting the efficiency with which cities are built. This highlights the need for highly optimised design and construction methods through the consideration of life-cycle cost strategies and the use of sustainable construction materials such as stainless steel. The EU-funded New GeneSS project aims to change the paradigm of structural design methods by developing a new, efficient and comprehensive design methodology that will address this need. The project will build the basis for a body of innovative and consistent structural design standards in Europe, will strengthen international collaboration and transfer of knowledge with the industry and will establish the principles to train the structural engineers of the future.
