COGENAIR 2000

Objectif

* To reduce energy consumption
- to integrate all of its energy needs over the entire airport site
- to develop innovative and more energy-effective techniques
- to operate with a Centralised Technical Management (CTM)
* To improve the distribution of sources of energy supply
- to enhance the competition between Natural gas and Electricity
* To improve security in the production and distribution of the different
forms of energy.
- Diversification of production methods (doubling up certain safety
measure production).
- to operate with a Centralised Technical Management (CTM).
* To reduce pollutant emissions
- Reduction in the number of boiler rooms (suppression of domestic fuel oil (DFO)
- Reduction in running time of electric power run on DFO
- Development of "clean" technologies for CFC-free cold production.

The COGENAIR 2000 project will equip the Bordeaux Airport with the means to produce, distribute and control energy (electricity, cold, thermal energy) that are adapted to its modernised design.
ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION :
This will cover three functions :
- General non-stop production during the winter months (November to March)
- Standby production in the case of a power cut in the public network
(April to October)
- Safety measure production in the case of an accident (fire, bomb
attacks...)
In addition to the two existing diesel-powered generators will be two more generators, with natural gas engines, to ensure both general production in winter and stand-by production. The diesel-powered generators will be use only for production where safety measures are required (mechanical smoke-clearing, emergency lighting, emergency exit controls etc..) in accordance with French regulations.
COLD PRODUCTION :
In winter an absorption chiller unit will use heat recovered from the exhaust gases from the generators to produce the cold required continuously for the Airport's technical installations (500 kW).
In spring and autumn cold will be produced by a absorption chiller unit with a natural gas burner supplemented by screw compressor chillers run on electricity.
In summer (July/August) the production will be provided by a screw compression chiller unit, extra energy being provided by the natural gas-fired absorption unit.
In addition, standby emergency cold production is necessary for the air navigation technical installations throughout the year and this will be provided by a low-power compressor unit.
HEAT PRODUCTION
This will be provided by heat recovered from the generators (engine water and exhaust gases), with additional production from the existing boiler working on natural gas.
