Objectif The principal objective of this project is to research and develop effective methodologies and IT support tools for the implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM) concepts and practices for the manufacturing work group or team.To achieve these overall objectives a number of sub-objectives have been identified:- The working group will require its own local distributed work group model of data to support the team activities and drive IT tools for the measurement of team performance.- The key measures of team performance must be identified and IT tools designed to deliver them. Such performance tools could relate to cost of quality, individual quality performance, process effectivenesss, team performance, communication and delivery performance, for example.- Individual and team communication must be supported and improved by the use of new communication methodologies based on Groupware computer-supported collaborative work (CSCW) and personal systems. This will provide links at a corporate, external and team level.- ManTIS must offer easy interoperability with other systems.ManTIS represents a 'bottom-up' development of shop floor production sytems which will emphasise the human centred approach. This will be achieved by a rigorous and thorough research phase involving 3 groups of SME users in the UK, Germany and Portugal.The SME users will act at all stages of the project from research to final prototype. A major role will be in supporting the specification of the 'look and feel' of ManTIS, since it will operate in a sensitive shop floor environment.ManTIS will comprise a suite of IT tools for the manufacturing team to implement policies of team development and continuous improvement of product and process. These tools will be integrated with both existing legacy systems and with a communication facility to enable the team to network with other factory services and teams as well as with the outside world.ManTIS is not expected to be specific to one manufacturing environment or size of team. A team might be a production cell, assembly line or even total factory. Its target market place is for manufacturing SMEs.More than 200 SMEs from various European countries are represented and will have contact with ManTIS. Moreover, this will lead to a system which can be used all over Europe.
