A computational design engine incorporating multi-disciplinary design and optimisation for blended wing body configuration

Objective

The project will develop a multi-disciplinary computational design permitting teams, distributed across Europe to work together in creating optimised designs. The project uses the blended Wing Body configuration as a driving scenario to provide a challenging multi-disciplinary concept requiring a CDE to generate optimal designs. The project defines, specifies and implements an advanced CDE but progresses to a full design by first devising a prototype system. The engine will be able to coordinate structural aerodynamic, aero elastic and flight mechanics disciplines. Handling characteristics will be dealt with by incorporating appropriate models into two flight simulators at partner universities. STEP/EXPRESS interchange mechanisms and feature based modelling will be included in the system architecture, a system group and 8 universities from four EU nations.
