Objetivo CargoSpeed - Cargo rail/road interchange at Speed - will support the sustainable flow of cargo from road to rail and will reduce the congestion problems on the roads within Europe. The system will reduce the costs for road/rail intermodalism and will increase the speed of the operation at combined terminals. It will halve the economic break-even distance for intermodal freight movements. The reduction of costs of the complete system in comparison to common techniques will be at least to 30 %. Outcome of the project are two prototypes. A CargoSpeed rail-wagon and a transfer mechanism. A specific well floor for the wagon and a POP-UP lifting and turning mechanism will be constructed and demonstrated. In order to achieve a reliable and cost efficient system a simulation and animation of the terminal will be prepared and comprehensive dissemination and exploitation measurements will be carried out. The marketability will be proved.
