Objectif November 7, 1999 TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN This is to certify that Ms. Matilde Revuelta has worked as predoctoral student at the Department of Biochemistry of the University of Seville since 1994 under the coordinated supervision of Prof. J.L. Venero and myself Ms. Revuelta completed her Ph. degree on December 1999. Ms Revuelta's experimental work was aimed at understanding different aspects of neuronal cell death in experimental animal models of Parkinson's disease and Temporal Lobe Epilepsy. 1. Firstly, Ms. Revuelta has demonstrated the presence of oxidatively modified proteins, a hallmark of oxidative stress, in the ventral mesencephalon following axotomy of the medial forebrain bundle. Ms Revuelta has further proved the involvement of hydroxyl radicals, and a correlation between the course of axotomy-induced oxidative stress and that of cell death by necrotic but not apoptotic mechanisms in substantia nigra.
