Soluble chain-extendable-polymer- filaments in textile performs for in-situ resin toughening using rtm-technique

Objective

A novel soluble chain-extendable polymer yarn being incorporated in tailored textile pre-form structures for common resin injection technologies allows the manufacturing of durable and cost competitive composite structures for various demanding applications among aerospace, marine, automotive and civil engineering. The realization will substantially contribute to expand the performance of liquid molded composite parts in terms of toughness, strength and surface quality on a prepared level and will provide a significant reduction of material and manufacturing cost. As the new polymer yarn dissolves and implements the tougher in the resin system only after the latter is injected, two directly opposed factors are eliminated - the need for toughened composite structures manufactured with low viscosity resin systems. Here, standard low cost / low viscosity resins can be used, which are modified in site to high performance matrix systems.
