Objective
The Share it! project aims to develop an end-to-end system that enables easy access to and transfer of personal content between local storage devices using home-to-home (h2h) networks and that enables innovative servicest hrough a seamless combination of on-line, broadcast, and stored content. To achieve this objective, the project will develop technologies that allow secure remote viewing and manipulation of stored content through broadband connection, the convergence of broadcast content and user-produced content and metadata.
OBJECTIVES
The main objective of Share it! is to develop an end-to-end system that enables easy access to, and transfer of, personal content between local storage devices using home-to-home networks and that enables innovative services through a seamless combination of on-line, broadcast, and stored content. Another important objective is the contribution and adherence to standards. This enables true interoperability across different content providers, service providers, and equipment manufacturers.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In the first half year of the project, technology and user requirements will be studied. Based on these requirements an end-to-end system architecture will be developed. For interoperability reasons public interfaces need to be standardized. Existing standards will be used where appropriate and new ones will be defined and standardized in the relevant standardization bodies, such as TV-Anytime Forum and DVB. Subsequently, an interoperable storage system that enables easy access to content and applications in home-to-home networks will be developed. In parallel several application and service concepts based on the integration of broadband to and from the home network with mass local storage will be tested for feasibility. Some applications and services will be selected for actual implementation in the Share it! system. The end result of the project will be demonstrated at some major exhibition or tradeshow.
