Advancing manufacture of photovoltaic systems
Self-formation is a relatively new, but quite promising research area that offers increased advantages in numerous fields, such as microelectronics. By employing a simpler manufacturing process with substantially reduced costs, product performance is increased. Based on the theory of chaos, artificial intelligence and fuzzy logic principles smart software is applied in developing structural growth processes. Self-formation, similar to self-organisation and self-assembly concepts is considered a key research area for future emerging technologies and applications. Urged by this, the FIRST_STEP project focused on specific energy technology applications on the grounds of self-formation. One of the key aims was to promote and disseminate conceptual and application-specific knowledge within the European research community. The Institute of Lithuanian Scientific Society (MSI) is one of the leaders in the development of new technologies based on self-formation concept. The MSI played an important role in the promotion of the self-formation breakthrough to the European intelligent materials industry and to the photovoltaic manufacturing industry in particular. The project supported networking between centres integrating research potential in Lithuania and EU organisations involved in self-formation theory and application specific research. The wide adoption of this breakthrough concept is expected to help European industry become more competitive.
