Objetivo This proposal aims to obtain a financial support for the organisation of the 5th edition of the European Conference on Silicon Carbide and Related Materials (ECSCRM). The ECSCRM takes place once every two years in Europe since 1996. The participant number has constantly increased from one edition to the other because of the increasing interest of the Electronic European Industry in SiC. The 5th edition of ECSCRM will take place in Bologna, Italy, the 5-9 September 2004 and 400 participants are expected. This conference acronym will be ECSCRM2004.Silicon Carbide (SiC) is a wide-band gap semiconductor material with electrical and chemical properties that has permitted the realisation of very high frequency and high power electronics with performances that have overcome the best limit performances of Si and GaAs electronics. But, SiC processing and SiC material growth technologies require further improvements in the aim SiC devices reach the theoretical limit due to the SiC intrinsic properties. The ECSCRM2004 is the appointment where the European Research makes the status of the art about the advancements in the SiC field in the last two years preceeding the conference date.Application fields of the SiC electronics components are telecommunications and telemetry in the band 5-10GHz, robotic, transport and industrial applications, and the electrical energy distributions which requires blocking voltages in the range a 103-105 V and very high current flux in the on mode. Finally the intrinsic properties of the SiC material can be friendly exploited in new unconventional fields like that of the sensors of optical, chemical, radiation and biological signal, and in the related micro systems. All these are applications addressed in the priorities 2, 3 and 6 of the VI° Frame Work Programme. The conference in Bologna will be the first opportunity for Industry and Academy where to show the progress made in the SiC field.
