Embedded Middleware in mobility applications

Objectif

Smarter systems demand smarter sensors; cooperative systems require cooperative sensors.

EMMA has the goal to open new prospects in embedded middleware for cooperating wireless objects in order to hide the complexity of the underlying infrastructure while providing open interfaces to 3rd parties enabling the faster, cost-efficient development of new cooperative sensing applications. The application domain of transport will be taken as a pilot example, where EMMA will foster cost-efficient ambient intelligence systems with optimal performance, high confidence, reduced time to market and faster deployment.

This goal will be achieved by means these objectives:
1. Building of a middleware platform and a development environment which facilitates the design and implementation of embedded software for cooperative sensing objects. This will be accompanied by a PAS in order to facilitate its wide adoption.
2. To lab test this middleware on a number wireless cooperative objects (wico,s):
a. Within an automotive subsystem
b. At a car level
c. At the supra-car level
3. To validate EMMA wicos in the context of a number of applications.
4. To feed the project results into the relevant standards, particularly in those of the automotive industry.
5. To facilitate the access of SME,s to the market of cooperative sensing systems, by means of specific middleware and targeted dissemination and awareness actions.

These objectives will be achieved in 30 months by a consortium of 2 SME's including the coordinator and a company from a NMS-, 2 big automotive industries and 2 universities. The consortium also includes a Korean institute which is a world leader in the field of embedded systems and which will bring vast technical and business benefits to Europe at no cost. This consortium will ensure technological excellence and maximum market impact.

The workplan, structured in 10 WPs will follow an incremental approach ensuring rapid results and manageable risks.
