Objective
Fast and thorough analysis of steel samples during the process of steel making would enable better process control.
The project will provide new reference materials with well-defined inclusion population, and a technique based on laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy to provide fast and simultaneous analysis of the steel matrix and the non-metallic inclusions.
The objectives are to:
- Develop a robust method to produce reference materials with a well-defined inclusion population, and produce sets of such reference materials,
- Improve LIBS as a fast analytical technique for rapid and simultaneous analysis of trace elements in steel and characterisation of the inclusion population.
