Nonuniversal statistics in MHD turbulence

Objective

"The nature of interactions between different scales in magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence is paramount for the understanding of flows occurring in fusion plasmas, the geospace, the heliosphere, the interstellar medium, and their influence for example on cosmic ray propagation, the solar-terrestrial interactions. The different degrees of nonuniversality observed at present studies, and the existence of nonlocal processes in MHD turbulent flows, call for a discussion about the validity of the locality hypothesis of scale interactions and the universality in MHD turbulence. We try to gain insight into this problem by performing high fidelity computations of MHD turbulence for massive parallel computers. We focus on the origins of nonuniversal statistics that are hidden in the complex dynamics of MHD turbulence, such as turbulent cascades, scale interactions, energy transfer and dissipation. We examine the long-range interactions, which are associated with departures from universality and can lead to the persistence of small-scale anisotropies and the development of intermittency."

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
