When we all work together, we all pull ahead
The ‘European Union-developing countries laser processing initiative’ (Eudevlas) project was designed to identify common interests among the EU and developing countries such as Brazil, China, India, Russia and South Africa in the field of laser technology. To this end, the project members distributed questionnaires to potential partners regarding activities, equipment, economic development and areas for collaboration. The detailed analytical results of responses from interested parties are freely available on the website in a public report titled Areas of common interest in laser processing between EU and developing countries that can now be used to initiate collaborations. As a first step to such networking, the researchers organised two workshops linked to conferences related to laser technology. In summary, the Eudevlas project laid the foundation for future collaborations between EU and developing country partners that should prove mutually beneficial regarding technological and economic development in the growing field of laser materials processing.
