Pervasive Adoption of gNss Technologies in sEcuRity Application

Objetivo

The PANTERA project has the objective to research and develop a new technology in the IT security domain that will enable the lowest cost location based access control, geo-encryption and GNSS signal authentication.
A USB hardware device (the security token), equipped with a GNSS front-end, samples the L1/E1 signal and encrypts it with an innovative approach for integrity protection.
The signal samples are subsequently sent to a remote server for post processing in order to attempt Position, Velocity and Time (PVT) calculation and signal authenticity verification. Server side post processing enhances indoor capabilities and signal authenticity verification through unlimited computational power and access to external services, such as assistance data and EDAS.
Operations of Geo-encryption, position and time attestation and certification, between users are performed server side on a service operated control centre, permitting the minimum hardware components on the security token.
With the inclusion of a specific research activity on future signal authentication methods based on the Galileo signal, and a consortium excellent in this area, the PANTERA project will maintain the European leadership in GNSS security.
