Emission Reduction for the Industrial Utilisation of Domestic Solid Fuels in Eastern European Countries

Objetivo

The large fossil Euel resources in Eastern European countries are presently utilized inefficiently and, in particular, with unacceptably high burden to the environment. This is due to the poor technology in fuel conversion processes and the almost non-existence of emission control equipment.
Therefore the main goals of the proposed programme to be jointly carried out by partners in major fossil fuel producing countries like poland, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, and Estonia - with additional support by German industry - are
- to determine the present state of noxious gaseous and solid emissions for selected industrial plants,
- to evaluate the possibilities of applying proven western environmental control technologies to Eastern European fossil
fuels' users,
- to prove the applicability of emission reduction measures bY laboratory and semi-technical research in existing facilities, - to propose solutions for the retrofit of existing industrial plants,
- to elaborate a technically and ecologically sound project for the alternation of a typical eastern coal fired power station at the example of the plant Laziska/Poland.
The joint project is aimed at a close cross-boarder cooperation in order to avoid overlapping and competing efforts at different locations / countries. Of particular interest are the aspects of providing synergetic effects within Eastern Europe as well as opening these areas for West European industry with regard to new markets for know-how transfer, engineering and equipment supply.
