Multi-sensorsystem for in-die process quality assurance at forming machines

Objetivo

A prototype was developed to create a process monitoring and control system for the stamping process. Force and Acoustic Emission sensors were used to obtain process relevant signals. Until now, force sensors were placed in the tool or in the machine frame. The implementation into the tool causes high sensor costs, complicated tool handling and cable breakage during production. The disadvantage of frame sensors is the distance to the process. The signals of the frame sensors underlay machine disturbances. The new developed Multi Sensor Plate avoids these disadvantages. It combines high process relevant signals with a good and robust handling of the sensor plate. Because of the modular design the Multi Sensor Plate can be perfectly adapted to the requirements of different tools and presses.
The other half of the Multi Sensor System is the signal processing unit, which was also developed. It allows a high adaptation to the requirements of the end-user, because the hardware of the pre-processing unit is modular designed. The unit bases on widespread PC-technology as Pentium processor and Windows 95 operation system. Because of the well known Windows 95 surface a high acceptance of the end-user will be achieved. The other advantage of Windows 95 is the multi tasking of different processes. This allows a constant process control in the background combined with a user friendly graphical surface in the foreground. For the future inter-faces for networking and long-distance monitoring are already implemented in this innovative system.
