Development of a ceramic hybrid receiver for biogas fired dish-stirling-systems for electric power supply ('BIODISH')

Exploitable results

The task and aim of the Combustion Section of the Engler-Bunte-Institute, University of Karlsruhe, Germany, in the Energy Project ERK5-CT-1999-00001- "BIODISH" was the design and the construction of a prototype of a gas fired burner with combustion chamber. Furthermore preliminary tests regarding the power regulation and the stabilisation of the flame were conducted. Temperatures of preheated air, flame and flue gases and gas concentrations of oxygen (O2), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), and nitrogen oxides (NO, NO2, N2O) should be measured. In order to perform tests with the burner a metallic receiver (REC) with combustion chamber (CC) and heat exchanger (HE) was built and an experimental set up was installed. First tests with burner, metallic combustion chamber and heat exchanger have been made to check load variations and stabilisation as well as air and waste gas temperatures, flue gas concentrations and pressure losses in the burner, combustion chamber and heat exchange depending on the input parameters load and excess air factor.
During the project BIODISH the biomass potential, especially for the agro-technical highly developed region of Almeria/Spain has been evaluated. With this knowledge it should be possible to perform in the future an economic analysis for power plants using biomass as an energy source.
