Objetivo
The object of the KNIFE project is to develop greater efficiency in the linkage between the investment community and the developers of new university-based small businesses based on new knowledge.
KNIFE will identify the state of the art tools and carry out research into what is currently available in terms of seed finance and venture capital. It will gauge the interest of potential candidates among University partners and identify pilot projects. The project will design self-instruction modules for the web site for evaluation by participants. The web site will host case studies from both the investment community and successful start-up companies (including the reasons for some failures). This will be followed by dissemination / exploitation, and the final web launch.
The partners will work together to:
- Develop best practice in relation to financing the application of intellectual property into knowledge-based companies;
- Develop efficient linkages and understanding between the investment community and KBE developers;
- Develop a model for analysis and investment by supporters of University-based KBEs;
- Develop trans-national linkages in Europe to compare European practice in securing capital for knowledge-intensive SMEs;
- Disseminate the results to a wider audience via a web site with self-instruction modules and case studies, and through clients in the field.
To accomplish this simple but essential goal, two institutions in Ireland, and one each in Spain and Finland are joining to bring together a variety of current experiences in financing micro-businesses, so that a combination of skills and experiences can aid entrepreneurs to improve access to capital.
