Objetivo TO ACHIEVE A FURTHER UNDERSTANDING OF THE WAY IN WHICH STICKY CONTAMINANTS AGGLOMERATE AND TO TRY TO ELIMINATE THEM. FOLLOWING WORK UNDER PREVIOUS DG XII CONTRACTS, MORE IS KNOWN ABOUT THE FORMATION OF STICKIES, BUT THE WAYS OF ELIMINATING THEM REMAIN VERY MUCH SPECIFIC TO THE TYPE OF STICKY IN QUESTION. THIS PROJECT WILL TRY TO ESTABLISH THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE SURFACE CHARGE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE STOCK, AND THE ACTUAL SURFACE CHARGES OF THE STICKY PARTICLES. A MODEL CHEMICAL SYSTEM WILL BE CONSTRUCTED TO SIMULATE VARIOUS MILL CONDITIONS AND THE KEY VARIABLES IDENTIFIED. THIS WILL ENABLE THE GENERATION OF STICKIES MECHANISM TO BE EVALUATED. CHEMICALS ALREADY KNOWN TO BE PARTLY EFFECTIVE WILL BE STUDIED, AND NEW POLYMERS EXPERIMENTED IN FLOTATION AND WASHING SYSTEMS. WHEN ANTICIPATED RESULTS ARE ACHIEVED, WORK WILL BE CARRIED OUT IN VARIOUS MILLS.
