Objetivo The project is aiming at a successful adoption of modern micro-electronic technologies in order to produce at a low price a highly reliable measurement device for medical applications. Its objective is to realize a miniaturized lactate biosensor unit and to simultaneously develop a suitable model manufacture methodology. The investigation work starts from the thick film technique for the electrode fabrication and ink-jet nozzle printing for sensor reagents deposition. The micro biosensor will be designed as a component for existing clinical measurement devices and will allow in combination with them for a reliable quantification of lactate concentration in human blood. At all stages, the biocompatibility of the sensor will be considered. It, however, is not the intention to use the micro biosensor in vivo within the timescale of this program, but this shall remain a long term aim.
