Brundtland City Network

Objetivo

The aim is to develop a network of energy conservation and renewable energy towns - the Brundtland City Network (BCN). The background is the UN-report "our Common Future "with the main author Gro Harlem Brundtland. The UN-report recommended a 50% cut down in the energy consumption in the industrialised countries. The Brundtland City Project endeavours to put the recommendations into practice within the field of energy and sustainability. In 1990 the Ministries of Energy in Denmark and Germany formed the idea to follow the recommended reduction. Two smaller cities were chosen. The aim of these cities was to reduce the energy consumption in the cities by 30-50% during. To exchange knowledge and experiences on energy matters based on the "first generation" of Brundtland Cities, the aim of the proposal is to form a network, that helps to spread the good and bad news from the work in the cities and to enlarge the network with new cities in the participating countries.
