225 KW WIND-DIESEL PLANT FOR OPTIMAL SHARING OF THE POWER

Objetivo

In order to assure the energy needs of a tourist center, a 225 KW wind turbine will be installed and operate in parallel with a diesel engine of the same power. Excess energy produced by the wind turbine will be used by a hydraulic station to pump water. The estimated annual yield is 552 MWh.

A 225 KW wind turbine will be constructed by Aeritalia and will be installed at "Prati di Cusciano" at an altitude of 1000 metres, in order to cover the energy needs of a tourist center. It is an upwind wind turbine with the synchronous generator placed at vertical position at the basis of the 25 m tower and directly connected with the 225 KW diesel engine. Thus, in parallel connection, it will be able to maintain constant electrical characteristics. Two accumulators systems will be used. One electrochemical which will be used to control the system and the other one, a hydraulic system with a reservoir and which will be used for pumping water whenever there is surplus of energy. The 32 m diameter wind turbine has 2 composite-reinforced-polyester blades, with variable, hydraulicly activated, pitch. The cut-in speed is 4.2 m/s, the rated 10.1 and the cut-out speed 20 m/s. The estimated annual yield is 552 MWh. Estimated energy produced by the diesel is 243 MWh, thus in total 795 MWh. The cost of energy produced by the wind turbine is estimated to 186 LIT/KWh.
