Call for expression of interest: Healthier living for European citizens – innovations in healthy oils for the benefit of consumers, agriculture and the food industry
Dow AgroSciences has opened a call for expression of interest for R&D collaboration in developing oilseed crops with new functional properties. All potential partners are invited to a science seminar entitled “Healthier living for European citizens – innovations in healthy oils for the benefit of consumers, agriculture and the food industry” which will take place on 7 June 2006 in Brussels. The seminar is a part of one-day conference on “Innovations in Bioscience for Animal and Human Health.” The aim of the seminar is to explain and discuss the benefits of the healthy oils which have the potential to replace oils high in saturated fat and hydrogenated oils containing trans-fats commonly used by the food industry today. It also seeks to explore ideas for partnerships with researchers, producers and processors in the EU. The programme of the science seminar on healthy oils is divided in two sessions. The first session will address the issues of dietary fat intake and public health impact, functional properties of oil for the food industry, and germplasm development in oilseed crops for Europe. The second part of the seminar will focus on Dow AgroSciences’ progress in developing this platform and will explore ideas for future collaboration in the area of healthy oils. Presentations will be delivered by experts in areas of nutrition, health, food processing, and plant science.
