Non-accessible content

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of the 'CORDIS - EU Research Results' website, we are aware of some limitations. We are working to fix them.

Below is a description of known limitations and potential solutions. Please contact us if you encounter an issue not listed below.

Known limitations for the 'CORDIS - EU Research Results' website:

Level A

  1. Web page (these issues will be solved by February 2026)

    1. Non-text Content in Podcast Episodes: The images illustrating different podcast episodes contain embedded text which is not accessible to screen readers.

    2. Images of Text in Podcast Episodes & Other Pages: Some images used in Videos & Podcasts, Home, and Error 404 contain text that is not accessible.

    3. Missing or Incorrect Headings: On pages such as Thematic Packs and the CORDIS profile/EU Login account, some section headings (e.g., “Recent Packs”) are not marked up with appropriate heading tags (H1-H6), affecting navigation for assistive technologies.

    4. Keyboard Navigation Issues: In the Project Ecosystem (Factsheet, Results, Reporting, News & Multimedia), certain interactive elements (e.g., “Project Website” modal links) are not fully keyboard accessible due to missing “href” attributes and improper use of modal triggers.

    5. Focus Order Problems: Modal windows across several pages may disrupt the logical focus order, making sequential navigation difficult for keyboard users.

    6. Untranslated or Redundant Link Descriptions: The language switching link on the Home page uses an aria-label that does not update correctly when the language changes, and some links lack descriptive text about their purpose.

    7. HTML and ARIA Errors: Across several pages, including Home and CORDIS profile/EU Login account, there are errors in the use of HTML and WAI-ARIA tags. These include redundant aria-label attributes on buttons that already contain visible text, and improper nesting of section elements, affecting semantic structure and screen reader interpretation.

    8. Secondary Menus Not Properly Identified: In profile-related pages (My Subscriptions, My Saved Searches, My Booklet, My Profile, API Services), secondary navigation menus lack aria-labels and do not visually or programmatically indicate the current section.

    9. Dropdown Accessibility: Custom dropdowns in profile and search pages do not announce their state or selected option to screen readers.

  2. PDF Document

    1. Automatically Generated PDFs: PDFs automatically generated from articles lack descriptive document titles. (This issue will be solved by February 2026)

    2. Automatically Generated PDFs and Old Packs: PDFs generated from articles or older document packs may lack proper accessibility tagging, including missing headings and improper reading order.

    3. Non-text Content Without Alternatives: Some PDFs (e.g., Policy-oriented marine environmental) contain images or graphics without text alternatives.

    4. Contrast Issues: Certain PDFs (e.g., Leading the way in European Supercomputing, Policy-oriented marine Environmental) have insufficient color contrast in text and graphical objects/components, including non-text contrast (charts, icons, and visual elements).

    5. Language Specification Issues: PDFs may not specify the default language or the language of individual sections, affecting screen reader interpretation.

    6. Link Text and Heading Issues: Some links in PDFs do not clearly describe their destination, and headings are not always properly tagged.

Level AA

  1. Web page (these issues will be solved by February 2026)

    1. Responsive Design Issues: On the Error 404 page, resizing the browser or text may cause horizontal scrolling or loss of content/functionality.

    2. Images of Text: The Error 404 page and Videos & Podcasts section use images of text instead of HTML/CSS, preventing proper scaling and accessibility.

    3. Focus Visibility: Interactive elements on My Subscriptions, My Saved Searches, and My Profile, some interactive elements do not display a visible focus indicator, making keyboard navigation unclear.

  2. PDF Document

    1. Structural and Tagging Issues: PDFs may lack hierarchical heading structure (H1-H6), proper tagging for assistive technologies, and descriptive titles.

    2. Language and Contrast: PDFs may not specify language for the document or its parts and may have insufficient color or non-text contrast.

We are committed to continuous improvement and regularly review the accessibility of our website and documents. Remediation actions are planned and ongoing.
