The Commission of the European Communities issues a call for tenders concerning a study on the evaluation of the economic efficiency and competitiveness of the Community Testing, Inspection, Certification and Quality Assurance (TICQA) Services and the identification of the possible needs in infrastructure. This study forms the second phase of a project in the area of quality services. In the first phase, now being completed, all entities, public or private, working on a mandatory or voluntary basis in the area of TICQA services are to be identified and classified by country, industrial sector, geographical area to which services are supplied, and by functions and activities. The present study will first evaluate the economic efficiency of the TICQA Services sector and secondly estimate the additional infrastructure required to accommodate the increased demand for TICQA Services associated with the satisfaction of the needs for full coverage of industrial production in all Member States. For practical reasons, the industrial sector related to Information Technology and Telecommunications (ITT) products has to be separated from all other industrial sectors. Tenders may cover ITT and/or all other industrial sectors taken together. To facilitate evaluation, tenderers intending to cover the ITT sector should submit a separate proposal. More detailed information can be obtained from: Commission of the European Communities Directorate-General for Internal Market and Industrial Affairs Secretariat of Division III/B-2 200 rue de la Loi B-1049 Brussels (ITT sector): Tel. +32-2-2361582; Fax +32-2-2360851 (Other sectors) Tel. +32-2-2368285; Fax +32-2-2369131
