The European Commission, DG VII, has published an invitation to tender for an update and extension of a study of performance indicators for European railway undertakings undertaken in 1996. The aim of the study is to provide a suitable set of performance indicators that allow comparisons over time and between Member States, in order to control the progress of the Commission's railway policy and to monitor its impact on the situation of the railways. The study to be completed will build on a previous one which was launched in 1996 and analysed selected railway undertakings in France, Italy, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. The study should be completed within eight months.
