Climate change impacts on water cycle, resources and quality
This Scientific and Policy report presents the conclusions of the discussions of the corresponding workshop. It was co-organised by three Directorates-General of the European Commission, Research, Environment and the Joint Research Centre, in Brussels on 25 26 September 2006 to discuss climate change impacts on the water cycle, and to present and discuss research results and policy needs on the issue. The publication presents the conclusions held during the workshop that stressed aspects such as: The need for a geographical and sectorial approach with regard to climate change impacts and responses strategies The need for further research on: - The physical and ecological impacts of climate change - The socio-economic impacts of climate change - Further improvement of models and need for monitoring of processes - Costs for adaptation and mitigation - Interactions between policies and climate impacts and strategies The workshop highlighted the importance of a forum for open discussions on climate research and polices related to water dimension. It provided input to the Symposium organised by the German Presidency 'Time to Adapt: Climate Change and the European water Dimension'.
