D-20 before awarding the prizes for the “Copper in the home” design competition

Winners and finalists will be presented at the Triennial of Milan on 28 and 29 September.

Passion and talent for a style competition with a copper theme Launched by the European Copper Institute and the Italian Copper Centre in February, the “copper in the home” competition has been remarkably successful, with nearly 70 candidates from seven different countries, from Italy to the Netherlands via Belgium. The participants, both students and professionals, created a wide variety of objects for the interior based on the use of copper or alloys, (bronze, brass, etc.) such as chairs, tables, lamps, bookcases, vases, wall coverings, etc. The entries showed a great deal of creativity: captivated by the aesthetic potential, moulding possibilities and the play of light upon the “red metal”, the designers succeeded in working with and making use of the large palate of shades and uncommon malleability of copper. The winner of the “Student” category will be awarded a prize of EUR 1,500; those in the “Professional” category will receive EUR 4,000 and EUR 2,500, with presentations being made at the Triennial of Milan, on 28 and 29 September. 4th “Living with copper” exhibition: copper, bringing style in our daily life. The winning projects will also be presented as prototypes in the 4th “Abitare con Il Rame” (Living with copper) exhibition at the Triennial of Milan, from 29 November to 29 December 2007. Following “Light, heat and table art”, this now biennial event opens this year with the theme of “Materials and colours”. The chance for competition winners to exhibit their creations in the European temple of design, alongside works from the most prestigious studios (Fontana Arte, Frabo, Guerro, Pesaro, Capellini, etc.), is a precious opportunity for this new talent.
