Conference in Belgrade to discuss agrifood research in the Western Balkan Countries

A conference on the situation and the future perspectives of agrifood research in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and FYROM will be organised in Belgrade on the 27th of March 2008.

The conference will be built on the results of the project “Balkan Agrofood Network” (BAFN). Between September 2006 and December 2007, a survey on the situation of agricultural and food research in the Western Balkan Countries has been implemented. More than 289 research groups and 164 private companies have answered a questionnaire that has been used to prepare reports on the research capacity in each country. During the summer 2007, four expert panel meetings were organised to identify future priorities for agrifood research in the region. Ideas for projects to be financed by the EU in the FP7 have been proposed and validated by the scientific community from both the Western Balkan Countries and the EU through a consultation. The conference will be organised in the context of the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6) project “Balkan Agrofood Network” supported by the European Commission. BAFN started on the 1st of May 2006 and will end on the 30th of April 2008. It gathers partners from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, FYROM, Bulgaria, Hungary and Greece. BAFN is co-ordinated by Euroquality, a consulting company established in Paris. For more information and registration, please visit
