Professor Lars Walløe (Oslo), has been elected to be the next President of the Academia Europaea.

The Council of the Academia Europaea elected Lars Walløe to be the Fifth President of the Academia Europaea, at a meeting held in London on 27th June.

The Council of the Academia Europaea elected Lars Walløe to be the Fifth President of the Academia Europaea, at a meeting held in London on 27th June. Prof. Walløe will assume the Presidency at the end of the 20th anniversary conference of the Academia, which will take place at Liverpool (European Capital of Culture) September 18 – 20th. He will succeed Prof. dr. Jürgen Mittelstrass (Germany, University of Constance) who has been President for the past six years. Walløe is Professor of Physiology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Oslo and previously also been professor of applied statistics and cybernetics. He has also been part-time Research Director at the Institute of Marine Research in Bergen and part-time Professor at the Department of Arctic Biology at the University of Tromsø and past President of the Norwegian Academy of Sciences.
