International PhD Summer School “Models of Creative Design”

“Models of Creative Design” 2010 is the second summer school of the DESIRE network, a program supported by Marie Curie Initial Training Network. FP7 - people. The summer school is addressed to young researchers, PhD students, or professionals in the field of Design and will take place at the Aveiro University in Portugal in September 19-25, 2010

“Models of Creative Design” 2010 is the second of two summer schools proposed as part of the DESIRE: “Creative Design for Innovation in Science and Technology,” Programme of Marie Curie Initial Training Network. DESIRE aims to establish an interdisciplinary network of researchers investigating creative design in various applied domains, including interaction design, industrial design, and arts design. It was promoted by seven partners: Copenhagen Business School, Eindhoven University of Technology, Lancaster University (coordinator), The Portuguese Catholic University, University of Aveiro, University of Milan and Philips Research. A single theme, “Theories and Models of Creative Design,” connects the two summer school programs. Within this theme, the first school focused on theories of creative design, while the second will focus on modelling creative processes in design. The two summer-school programs are self-contained and designed to be attended either separately or in combination. The 2010 summer school will build on grounding creativity theory, analysis and modelling creative processes in design and innovation. Industrial, artistic, and collaborative design will be explored from the perspective of the user, the cognitive scientist, the software engineer, and the interaction scholars as well as the designer. Several aspects of creative design, such as: design cognition models; design processing; computer supported collaborative design, creative digital interaction and qualitative analysis; will be examined. Whom it addresses Who Should Attend The summer school is addressed to young researchers, PhD students, or professionals in the fields of Design, Human Computer Interaction, Interaction design, Experience design and Industrial design. Invited Keynote speakers: (confirmed) > John Gero: Research Professor at the Krasnow Institute for Advanced Study and at the Volgenau School of Information Technology and Engineering, George Mason University and a Visiting Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is the author or editor of 46 books and over 550 papers and book chapters in the fields of design science, design computing, artificial intelligence, computer-aided design, design cognition and cognitive science. > Nigel Cross: Professor of Design Studies at the Open University based in Milton Keynes, UK. He is a leading thinker in the design research and the design education communities. His latest book, Designerly Ways of Knowing showcases his ideas on what designers do when they do design and promotes Design as a discipline like Science or Arts.
