New H2020 project on human behaviour around energy kicks off in Ireland
Under the SET plan the EU has set ambitious goals for the transition to a low-carbon economy. Achieving these goals will require not just technological innovation, but major shifts in public attitudes and behaviour. The project ENTRUST aims to provide a comprehensive mapping of Europe’s energy system (key actors and their intersections, technologies, markets, policies and innovations) and an in-depth understanding of how human behaviour around energy is shaped by both technological systems and socio-demographic factors. ENTRUST will explore the human factor in energy systems through an integrated, mixed methods approach, focusing on practice and behavioral aspects The ENTRUST project will contribute to effective transition to more sustainable energy systems by achieving a practice-based understanding of the social aspects of the energy system. ENTRUST will therefore significantly advance our knowledge of the motivations and attitudes of the various actors in the energy system, their interactions, and both the barriers to and potential levers for change. The partnership behind the project involves universities from Ireland and UK, engineering and software experts from Spain and UK and consulting companies in innovation consulting and management from Italy and France. The kick-off meeting of the ENTRUST project took place between the 20 and 21 of May, 2015, in the University College Cork, Cork, Ireland.
