To improve communication with potential participants in Community research programmes, Directorate-General XII of the Commission of the European Communities has launched a new telematic service called ARCADE. Providing direct contact with the competent services, ARCADE (Ampere Remote Control Access Data Entry) will simplify administrative procedures for the presentation of research projects to the Commission. This new service, accessed via the national public VIDEOTEX networks (Teletel, Prestel or Btx standards), was first presented at Expo '92 in Sevilla in May and will officially come into service in November 1992 in all twelve Member States. The Commission envisages that ARCADE will be opened up to the EFTA countries during 1993. The first Community programme made available through ARCADE is the specific programme of research and technological development in the field of industrial and materials technologies (BRITE/EURAM II, 1990-1994), which aims to stimulate the development of advanced technologies in the various areas of manufacturing industry in Europe. Via ARCADE, interested research organizations and enterprises can request detailed documentation on BRITE/EURAM (Infopacks), consult guidelines and the implementation timetable, search for suitable research partners, or register research proposals and answers to calls for expressions of interest. ARCADE will be extended to include other RTD programmes in the near future.
