EU-Israel agreement signed
Commissioner Edith Cresson, Ambassador Dietrich von Kyaw on behalf of the Council, and Harry Kney-Tal, Ambassador of Israel, officially signed the agreement for scientific and technical cooperation between the European Community and the State of Israel on 3 March 1999. The agreement associates Israel with all the non-nuclear activities of the Fifth Framework Programme (FP5) for Research, Technological Development and Demonstration (RTD), and, in return, gives European researchers access to Israeli research programmes in similar fields. The agreement is effectively a renewal of that signed in 1996 under the Fourth Framework Programme, which gave rise to 350 joint projects.
