Smart cities Guidance package on Tour: Second testbed in the city of Sofia

Sofia has to show the advantages of modernising the buildings of its owners Georgi Georgiev, Fraunhofer; Judith Borsboom van Beurden, Norwegian University of Science and Technology

Sofia has to turn to the owners of apartments and buildings on different channels, show them the advantages of retrofitting buildings and convince decision-makers with facts to achieve their own goals of reducing the energy used. This opinion was expressed by Georgi Georgiev, Fraunhofer, during the international conference Cities of Knowledge and Intelligent Cities. At the same time, Bulgaria has a rather efficient program to finance the reconstruction of such buildings, Georgiev noted. He pointed out that the strategy that Fraunhofer envisages for Sofia aims at reconstructing as many buildings as possible of one type and increasing their energy efficiency. "Reconstruction financing programs in combination with the strategy can deliver really good results. But, of course, there is also a need for improvements in this funding program. Part of this money for reconstruction can be invested in technical advice and convincing the owners." Interestingly, it's not just good practices, but it's also very important to talk about failures, said Judith Borsboom van Beurden, Norwegian University of Science and Technology.
